Chandrababu creates extraordinary cityscape paintings

I stepped into an exhibition to check out the artworks. I was slowly walking along the displayed paintings, scanning my gaze at every detail in the art. In fact, I was trying to have my own interpretation of the art.

Displayed alongside the entrance wall, the painting seemed real. I felt like stepping into the canvas and walking through the streets. It was a photo-realistic painting of the city called Cityscape art. The paintings were done by Chandrababu, an artist from Tamil Nadu, India.

I was so amazed to know that a person’s good old childhood memories could influence his work.

Recollecting the old memories, Chandrababu says, “When I was small, we used to stay in a hut. Everything was so rustic. My dad and I travelled on bicycle wherever we would go to. All along I would admire the old buildings, God’s creation – the natural beauty. During the monsoon, the place had its unique beauty. From distant the place would look picturesque and wet.”

“All these moments remain etched in my memory but today when I travel back to the same place, I miss treating my eyes with the childhood beauty that I once saw. The hotel Rama is nowhere to be seen now. There were memories attached with the hotel during my school days as most often we would parcel dosa from there.”

Chandrababu is reconnecting the memories through his painting. He is capturing each and every detail of the past on his canvas. Be it doors, hotel Rama, bicycle, rainfall and everything else. This is an attempt to pass on knowledge to younger generation on the history of Chennai and other cities as well.

Chandrababu today, has captured most of the historic temples and architecture of different cities in his paintings. The artist is letting us travel back to those good old days through his photo-realistic paintings.
